Dep Health Paramedic Practitioner Legislative Amendments

The union has been consulted on the proposed legislative amendments to allow the introduction of paramedic practitioners. Currently, registered paramedics in Victoria are restricted to obtaining, possessing, and using medicines only within the scope of specific permits or licenses held by their service provider.

For paramedic practitioners to operate independently, including prescribing and managing a wider range of medicines, changes to the Ambulance Services Act and related regulations are required. These amendments aim to broaden the scope of practice for paramedic practitioners, enhancing their ability to provide comprehensive care on-site and in various settings.

Details on these reforms and their implementation timeline will be available later in 2024. If you would like to discuss the legislative amendments with a union official, contact Darren Law 0434 628 877
