On 12 August 2024, the union participated in consultations regarding a proposal to revoke the COVID-19 vaccine Secretary Directions. Member’s feedback and recommendations can be viewed here.
The response to this proposal indicated strong support across the sector for removing the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Instead, there will be a robust recommendation for Victorian healthcare workers to stay up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, in line with ATAGI recommendations and the Australian Immunisation Handbook.
This change aligns with policies in other Australian jurisdictions concerning healthcare worker vaccinations.
Effective 4 October 2024, the COVID-19 vaccine Secretary Directions, which mandated vaccinations for Victorian healthcare workers, will be officially revoked.
The Vaccination for Healthcare Workers website will be updated on 4 October 2024 to provide new policy guidance and address frequently asked questions regarding this change.
