UNION WIN! Hot Desking Ceased

This week, Deputy HSR Sharyne Doensen issued two Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) at Triple Zero Victoria (TZV). The PINs called for an end to the unsafe practice of hotdesking and for the employer to meet its obligations under the Health and Safety Act to consult directly with affected employees.

WorkSafe representatives visited TZV’s Burwood site to meet with Sharyne and TZV management to discuss the impact of hotdesking, which has led to injuries among Dispatchers. Sharyne strongly advocated for an end to the practice, highlighting that the issue is not a lack of ergonomic knowledge, but a lack of time for staff to properly set up their workstations—contributing to ongoing injuries.

TZV acknowledged operational constraints and committed to further consultation, including sharing meeting minutes with all HSRs and providing paid time for their review.

While WorkSafe did not affirm the PINs at this stage, they advised that structured consultation with clear timelines and communication must proceed. For now, hotdesking at TZV has ceased!

Congratulations to Sharyne for standing up for her colleagues and exercising her legislative rights to protect the health and safety of staff at Triple Zero Victoria.
